About Project
Stories Beyond Borders is an Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange project that connects young people from Europe, Cabo Verde, Kenya, and Madagascar through digital storytelling, podcasting, cinema, and creative media collaboration. The project was created in response to shared challenges faced by young people across both continents, including limited access to intercultural experiences, digital inequality, low civic participation, and a growing gap between education and employability skills.
Geographic isolation, economic disparities, and the long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have reduced opportunities for international mobility and intercultural learning, leaving many young people without access to meaningful global exchanges. At the same time, uneven digital access and insufficient media literacy have increased young people’s vulnerability to misinformation and limited their ability to participate critically and creatively in digital spaces. Across partner countries, many youth also feel excluded from political and civic decision-making processes, while their voices remain underrepresented in public debate.
Stories Beyond Borders addresses these challenges by creating inclusive virtual spaces where young people can collaborate across cultures, share personal and community stories, and engage in dialogue on social issues that matter to them. Through virtual Story Circles, Creative Labs, digital storytelling workshops, and public online events, participants develop intercultural understanding, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and digital production skills that are essential for active citizenship and future employability.
The project also strengthens the capacities of youth workers and facilitators by providing training in virtual exchange methodologies, storytelling pedagogy, and intercultural dialogue facilitation. By building sustainable digital collaboration structures such as the Story Hub and Virtual Festival, Stories Beyond Borders creates long-term opportunities for youth-led narratives to reach wider audiences, encourage democratic participation, and strengthen connections between African and European communities.
